These are some images showing the development of one of my favorite paintings. It’s a scene from Los Angeles, at the home of author Aldous Huxley (best known for his futuristic novel A Brave New World).
My niece, on the left, used to live across the street. His widow was a lively woman, and she would often invite the neighborhood kids over to swim. I fell in love with the composition of this image, the colors, and the mood — young best friends caught in conversation, playing at the chic LA lifestyle, not taking it at all seriously. Interesting fact: my niece Odessa has appeared in 3 of my favorite pieces. I love her sister Sigourney just as much — I promise! When you stand in front of this painting the bricks really reach out toward you in 3-D space, adding a fun “trompe l’oeil” element.
